The name “Tomi no Oka” means literally “Hill of beautiful climbing,” and indeed, when you climb to the top the scenery is spectacular. To the south, the imposing sight of Mt. Fuji. The Kofu Basin spreads out before your eyes. It is here that one can feel how richly blessed Japan’s natural landscape is. This beautiful hill was given its name many generations ago, and is the origin of the name of our winery.Tomi no Oka grows all its grapes in its own vineyard. For example, each vine in our vineyard is numbered so that detailed data can be collected and analyzed in terms of grape variety, temperature and rainfall. Maximizing the benefits of this topographical variation and keeping to our golden rule of growing each grape variety in its optimum conditions, we are able to over the years, overcome the challenges and perfect a quality management system.
