Chef Kentaro, a rising star in Asia’s culinary scene, is the grandson of the late Chef Chen Kenmin, regarded as Japan’s “Father of Szechwan Cuisine”, and the eldest son of renowned Iron Chef Chen Kenichi. Chef Kentaro cultivated an interest in Szechwan cuisine after watching his father on the highly successful global cooking reality show, Iron Chef Japan, and further honing his skills by working in Szechwan restaurants in China.
From 2005 to 2008, Chef Kentaro honed his ma la craft in Chengdu, the capital of China’s Szechwan province, by starting out as a dishwasher and rising his way up. Continuing his family legacy, Chef Kentaro leads Shisen Hanten at Mandarin Orchard Singapore, the first foray overseas. The chain was originally started by Chef Kenmin in 1958 and then expanded by Chef Kenichi into 14 restaurants throughout Japan.
